Burley Preserves

 

 

 

 

Burley Preserves is a social enterprise. Since October 2019 the team (two learners and two staff members) have transformed two rundown allotments into a thriving hub of growing fruit and vegetables to make a variety of jams and chutneys to sell. 

 

Along the way the learners have explored:

1. A lot about all aspects of growing plants, soil and healthly eating

2. How to make jams and chutneys from start to finish, including finding recipes and learning how to use kitchens safely

3. How to research local markets and where to sell produce 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

"Working as part of the Burley Preservers, my knowlegde of horticulture has increased. I've learnerd that jam sets at 104 degrees and that you have to be very careful when working around hot sticky jam!

 

I love the whole process from planting to selling, but selling is my favourite. We can show off everything we have done, and if we make a profit we even get a dividend!
